Open Concept Living – Why Everyone is Making the Change

We’ve seen this trend happening for years now, and I can assure you that it isn’t going anywhere – open concept living is here to stay, and it’s only going to get better and better, and that’s great news, because it’s the best layout there is.

We all know the feeling, walking into one of those old, dated and sectioned off homes. They were built in the 20th century, and we’re always asking ourselves why they did it in such a tasteless way.

Well, it wasn’t what you might expect! It all comes down to technology. Afterall, LVLs weren’t invented until the 1970s. Up to that point, homes needed to be built with load bearing walls.

It wasn’t practical at all to bring steel beams into the average middle class home. When all these wartime homes that we’re living in were being built, lumber was readily available and being milled by the boat load.

It was relatively cheap and easy to build with. Builders required no special skills at all – or even special tools for that matter. You could literally build a stick framed home with a hammer and nails.

But steel? Because of the WWII efforts, it wasn’t as readily available. Not to mention that if it were to be used in a residential home application, you would need specialty skills and tools for the welding process.

So what we ended up with was hundreds of thousands of boxes, with segregated rooms all because of necessity, not by choice.

But now – now we have LVLs, and we’ve even been known to, after all these years, use steel beams in residential applications from time to time as well.

These new and readily available technologies make it easier than ever to go open concept. And here at SteveBuilt, we’re not stopping until we’ve opened up every home in Niagara.

So, is your home feeling closed off and segregated? Just call us for Pete’s sake. It’s the best choice you’ll make all year, we can promise you that.

An open concept home creates an energy of calmness and relaxation. Everyone can be together while you’re doing the things that you love most.

An open and airy space can inspire you and energize you, and we’ve seen the positive effects time and time again. Don’t believe me? Check out our testimonial video on the contact us page.
